Hello Everyone,

NextGenATL is one of the two new members of the network – SC and ATL.  We are very pleased to be part of this amazing network.  We hope to get up to full speed this year with our two groups.  We are composed of NextGen–ATL/BTW (Booker T. Washington High School) and NextGen–ATL/Mays (Benjamin E. Mays High School), both named after highly regarded historical figures in the African American community writ large.  Neither program is school-centered, so we’re now on a hiatus of sorts as our schools get back in session.  Both high schools are on the Westside of Atlanta and part of the Atlanta Public School System.  Both started the first week in August.  I am at the Georgia Institute of Technology–along with our two faculty leaders:  Joycelyn Wilson and John Thornton.  Our classes at GT began yesterday.  Shaleisa Brewer, the coordinator of the BTW group just returned from the ending of Bread Loaf Program not long ago and taking a deep breath.  So, we’re almost there, and we expect to get going again fairly soon.  We have a slate of activities that we want to keep rolling and a couple of new ones that we want to get going.  So, you will hear more soon.

This note, then, is just a quick hello to the group and a thank you to all for the wonderful experiences that all of us had at Bread Loaf.

More soon,

Jackie
